Beyoncé Giselle Knowles is the eldest of a family of two children. Her sister is Solange Knowles, born to Tina and Mathew Knowles in Houston, Texas. Her mother being from Louisiana, her parents decided that she would take her mother's maiden name. Her maternal grandparents, Lumis Beyoncé and Agnéz Deréon were French-speaking.
