BIOGRAPHY:

The eldest of five children, Sanaa Lathan was born in New York to a director and producer father and a mother dancer by profession. Initially interested in the legal profession, she enrolled at the University of California at Berkeley while continuing to play at the Black Theatre Worshop.

She obtained her English baccalaureate and dropped out of law school to obtain a master’s degree in fine arts from the Yale School of Drama. Then she returned to New York to perfect her skills where she appeared in off-Broadway and local theatre productions.

She accumulated extensive experience until 1996, when she moved to Los Angeles and made a series of TV series: “New York Police Blues”, “Family matters”, “In the house”, “Moesha” and in 1997 the short film by her brother Tendaji “The smoker”.
