Janet Damita Jo Jackson (born May 16, 1966 in Gary, Indiana, near Chicago) is an African-American pop singer and film actress. She is the ninth and last child of the Jackson family and is the younger sister of Michael Jackson. She lives in Henderson, Nevada. In her 27-year career, Janet Jackson has sold over 100 million records worldwide.
Janet Jackson is the youngest daughter of the Jackson family. As a child, she dreamed of being a jockey, but in the Jackson household, everyone was a musician. At the age of 7, she found herself on stage for the first time with her brothers, the Jackson Five, who were performing in Las Vegas. The audience was spellbound by the charisma of the youngest of the Jackson clan. She began acting and appeared in several sitcoms, including Arnold and Willy (Different Strokes), Good Times and Fame, but her father Joseph Jackson preferred that she pursue a musical career rather than a film career.
