Synopsis:
Le Gang des Antillais is an adaptation of the book by Loïc Lery, written during his stay in Fleury-Merogis. It recounts the story and revolt of a group of West Indian workers in the 1970s. The French state relocated a whole generation of young people from overseas territories to metropolitan France to appease their social and cultural demands. Upon their arrival, the Creoles face day-to-day racism and instability. The hero, Jimmy, is drawn towards a fate he has no control over, and amidst the violence, he becomes aware of his responsibilities, shortcomings, and desires. His empowerment comes from a meeting with Patrick Chamoiseau, his prison educator. This film by Jean-Claude Barny is another tool supporting the historical struggle of the black man and his place in society.
